Grants & Sponsorship

The Department of Indigenous Affairs (DIA) provides funding assistance for the following programs:

  • PALS Awards - PALS is a joint initiative between the Department of Indigenous Affairs and BHP Billiton that encourages Western Australian students to take an active role in Reconciliation in their school and wider community. For more information on criteria, guidelines, prizes and closing dates, visit the PALS website.
  • Looking after Country grants - The Land Branch facilitates the Looking after Country grants. These grants are subject to funding. Information will be provided on this website in relation to the timing for 2007/2008 applications for Looking after Country grants.
Applications will only be accepted during the advertised periods.
  • Patrol grants - Patrols provide strategies at the community level to deal with and respond to a range of social problems experienced in Aboriginal communities and to reduce contact between Inidgenous people and the criminal justice system. Patrols are operated by the community and are supported by DIA and other agencies.
  • Reconciliation sponsorship - the State Government each year offers sponsorship for activities that recognise the relationship between the original inhabitants of the State and the people who have made this country their home over the past 200 years. These small sponsorships – for amounts of up to $3,000 - are aimed at small, community-based projects driven by local groups in Western Australia.  This year's grants have closed.

Funding Portals

  • GrantsLINK - The Department of Transport and Regional Services maintains a comprehensive GrantsLINK website that helps people find funding under a variety of Australian grant programs.
