Project: On the Trail of the Barramundi

Description: The school will compile a documentary of the visit by the Madjitil Moorna Choir culminating in the Halls Creek Mob Respect Yourself Culture Concert.

Recipient: Yiyilli Aboriginal Community School
Project: School/Community Culture Camp
Amount: $3000
Description: The school will organise and run a three-day cultural camp to Gooniyandi Country to which every member of the school community will be invited.

Description: The school will undertake work to restore damaged photo albums and the crated an electronic database of the photos.  This will be stored and shown in the new community library.

Project: Youth Council leadership workshop

Description: The workshop will help the members of the youth council to find proactive solutions to the problems young Aboriginal people on the Kimberley face.

West Kimberley region

Recipient: One Arm Point Remote Community School
Project: Bardi Culture program

Description: The program works to increase school attendance by engaging Elders, community members and parents in the children’s education.

Description: The whole community will be invited to help build a special garden where everyone can sit, reflect and relax.

Recipient: Jalygurr Guwan Multifunctional Aboriginal Children’s Service
Project: Celebrating 21 years of service to the community
Amount: $2500
Description: The service will host a family even to celebrate its 21 years of service to the Broome and surrounds Aboriginal community.

Recipient: Wangkatjungka Remote Community School
Project: Elders Past, Present and Future

Description: Students will participate in an art and social culture exhibition with a core group of 10 Elders from the Wangkatjungka and Ngumban communities.

Goldfields region

Recipient: Vibe Australia
Project: Vibe Alive festival, Kalgoorlie

Description: Vibe Alive is a two-day education and performance festival during which young Australians will talk to role models and learn about education, training and career options.

Recipient: CBC Fremantle
Project: Immersion program Year 11
Amount: $3000
Description: The college’s Year 11 students will travel to Kiwirrkurra community to continue the work they have been doing for the last six year in education and infrastructure.

Metro/Wheatbelt region

Recipient: Fremantle Police and Community Youth Centre
Project: Friends of Hilton

Description: The PCYC will run a series of activities and programs that aim to link young Aboriginal people from Hilton and surrounds with local Elders and parents.

Recipient: Dawesville Catholic Primary School
Project: Bindjareb Noongar heritage trail

Description: The school community will build a heritage trail through its bushlands.  It will include mosaics depicting the seasons and plaques to identify bush food plants, animals and totems.

Recipient: Riverlands School
Project: Healing the Swan

Description: Working with others schools, Elders, Local Government, State Government and scientists, the students will learn about history, traditions and health of the river.  Their findings will be made into a book and a display.

Description: Female students at Yule Brook College will take part in a program to promote confidence by learning about health, deportment, grooming and sport.

Description: The shire will organise an event for everyone in the community that involves physical activity, games, entertainment and a multi-cultural morning tea.

Description: The school will organise a series of morning teas for Aboriginal families in the school community, where they can listen to guest speakers and become more involved in school programs and activities.

Description: The school has planned a program where local Elders will visit the school to teach the children about bush tucker, healthy bush food and medicine.  The children will use this knowledge to cook a bush tucker community feast to share with the whole school community.

Project: Boys to Men

Description: The school’s Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer has organised a three-day camp for 30 young male students, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous.  The boys will explore the traditional cultural celebration of the passing to manhood.

Description: The City organised a dinner function to which Aboriginal Elders and youth and non-Indigenous community members met and told their stories to build positive relationships.

Project: The Boyare Better Understanding and Awareness Project

Description: The school has planned a series of activities to increase understanding and awareness of Aboriginal culture.  These include a two-day camp at Mundaring and a school visit to see the play Windmill Baby.

Project: Future career pathways

Description: The organisation will conduct Indigenous cultural awareness sessions for employers and work-readiness and mentoring sessions for Indigenous youth in the Midland area.  These are intended to open up career opportunities for young Indigenous people from Midland.

Project: Indigenous tourism forum

Description: The shire has organised a forum on Indigenous tourism opportunities in the region, along with an exhibition of regional artwork and culture.  The forum will look at ways to include Indigenous tourism into the mainstream.

Recipient: West Beechboro Primary School

Description: The school community will be invited to participate in a project to bring the past, present and future together through art and literacy projects.  The school will create a mosaic snake that will be added to in successive years.

Murchison-Gascoyne region

Recipient: Yulella Aboriginal Corporation
Project: Respect for our Heritage, Respect for our People

Description: The corporation has planned a series of story-telling events to pass on knowledge and wisdom from the Elders to the young people to build respect and understanding and ensure this knowledge is not lost.

Recipient: Geraldton Regional Community Education Centre Association Inc
Project: The Universe Unites

Description: The association will work with community members to create a mosaic representing traditional Aboriginal and modern scientific views on astronomy in light of the likely building of the square kilometre array telescope near Geraldton.

Recipient: Mount Magnet District High School

Description: The school organised a sports day where students, parents and Elders play football and netball, share food, listen to music and take part in an arts workshop to help build understanding and respect between Indigenous and non-Indigenous young people and adults.

Pilbara region

Description: Elders, community members, Government and non-Government representatives will be invited to a community event including morning tea, craft workshops, storytelling and exploration of culture and heritage.

Recipient: Juluwarlu Group Aboriginal Corporation

Description: The corporation will organise an open day at its centre in Roebourne to include cultural activities, films, storytelling, dancing, storytelling and a community feast.

Description: The group has planned a three-day bush camp for Elders who speak these three languages to meet and build relationships.  The Elders will participate in a purification ceremony, spiritual healing processes, and will dance, cook and share stories.

Southern region

Description: The school has invited local Elders, representatives from the Boddington Gold Mine, the Boddington Bauxite Mine, local community groups and community members from the district to help build a mural to represent the many cultures that make up the world.

Project: Inner Beauty, Outer Beauty Creates One Beauty
Amount: $1800
Description: The shire has organised a series of workshops for local Aboriginal girls to learn goal-setting, health and deportment.

Recipient: Jobs South West Inc

Description: The organisation will conduct four workshops with local employers to raise awareness of Aboriginal cultural values and differences, and how these can be overcome in training, employment and community service delivery.

Description: The school plans a series of meetings between local Elders and members of the school community to discuss recent tragic events and work on solutions to the issues affecting the community.

Description: The school will organise excursions to the Dryandra native woodlands where students will participate in the ecological and cultural educational activities.

Description: Working with Southern Edge Arts, the committee will develop a performing arts project to explore misconceptions and barriers to Aboriginal people finding careers in mainstream organisations, and help to dispel these.

Description: This is the continuation of a project to interpret the traditional stories that were first recorded by American linguist Gerhardt Laves in 1931.
