About DIA
The Department of Indigenous Affairs (DIA) leads action to improve life opportunities for Indigenous Western Australians.
Its key functions are to:
• Develop strategic policy to guide and inform service delivery to Indigenous people;
• Support the work of the Indigenous Implementation Board;
• Coordinate service delivery to Indigenous Western Australians through chairing and supporting the Aboriginal Affairs Coordinating Committee;
• Preserve and protect Indigenous heritage by supporting the work of the Aboriginal Cultural and Material Committee; and
• Support the Aboriginal Lands Trust in the management of lands held by the Trust in accordance with wishes of people of Aboriginal descent.
Our Minister is the Hon. Peter Collier MLC Minister for Energy; Training and Workforce Development and Indigenous Affairs.
We work in partnership with the Commonwealth Government through the Council of Australian Governments (COAG), local councils, and many non-government organisations.
