Improvements to the Aboriginal Heritage Inquiry System (AHIS)

The online Aboriginal Heritage Inquiry System (AHIS) allows the public to search the Register of Aboriginal Sites for sites assessed under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1973 (AHA).

From the end of November 2010 the following changes will be made to information on the Register of Aboriginal Sites as accessed through the AHIS (and the raw geospatial data available through this website and SLIP).

  1. To clearly distinguish registered Aboriginal Heritage Sites, as determined by the Aboriginal Cultural Material Committee (ACMC), from places not assessed as a site by the ACMC, site search results will be split into two groups:
    • Group 1: Registered Aboriginal Sites (Register of Aboriginal Sites)
    • Group 2: Other Heritage Places (information not on the Register of Aboriginal Sites)
  2. The use of the phrase ‘Permanent Site’ and letter ‘P’ to denote a site recognised by the ACMC under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1973 will be replaced with ‘Registered Site’ and ‘R’.
  3. You can now search site information and survey areas using pre-defined geographic boundaries determined by Geothermal Titles and Petroleum Titles. (Follow: What do you want to do? > Search for Sites/Surveys in… > Geothermal / Petroleum)
  4. Larger maps are now available for larger screen sizes.
