Employ 10 additional Child Protection Workers

Commence the refurbishment and expansion of the Child Protection Unit services
at Princess Margaret Hospital

Commence preparations for the expansion of sexual assault services and the
relocation of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre
In 2003-4, the Government will:
-
Construct and staff 3 multi-functional remote police facilities at a cost of
over $6 million
-
Employ an additional 15 Child Protection Workers, increasing the number of new
Child Protection Workers to 25 in all, at a cost of $3 million
-
Further expand the Strong Families initiative to another 6 locations making 12
in all state-wide, at a total cost of $1.872 million in 2003-4
-
Further expand the services of the Child Protection Unit at Princess Margaret
Hospital at a cost of $766,000 and complete the refurbishment ($285,000)
-
Further expand Sexual Assault Services at a cost of $800,000 and complete the
relocation of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre at a cost of $360,000.

Provide $317,000 to support Aboriginal communities to develop and manage
locally specific safety strategies, including the identification and support of
safe places and persons for Aboriginal children.

Provide $2.2 million for workers to promote and mediate safety and violence
prevention strategies in Aboriginal communities

Expand community based programs and community supervision agreements to enhance
the management of violent offenders at a cost of $568,000
-
Provide an additional amount of $300,000 to extend victim support services for
adults and children to Aboriginal communities

Employ 14 skilled Aboriginal support workers to provide practical counselling
and assistance to vulnerable Aboriginal children and youth at a cost of $1.27
million a year.

Provide $200,000 to develop culturally appropriate counselling services for
Aboriginal clients
