Graduate Opportunities

DIA's graduate program is aimed at recent Indigenous tertiary graduates who demonstrate a commitment to customer service, outstanding communication skills, enjoy working in a team environment, have the ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous Australians, and operate successfully in a diverse work environment. The Graduate Program is aimed at recruiting graduates with degrees in land management, anthropology, archaeology, urban and regional planning and geography and other related disciplines.

Program

The program is conducted over a 12 month period and includes:

  • Comprehensive induction program into the department
  • Structured training and development program
  • Rotation of work placements throughout the department
  • Access to relevant training courses
  • Support through a mentor program.

The program is targeted at developing graduate's skills in the following areas:

  • Project management
  • Policy development and advice
  • Liaison with a diverse customer group
  • Planning and community development
  • Coordinating, planning and problem solving
  • Financial and office administration
  • Advocacy, facilitation and negotiation.

Career Opportunities

Upon successful completion of the development year, graduates will be encouraged to apply for advertised positions within the Department and across the WA Public Sector, however there is no guarantee of ongoing permanent employment.
