Reconciliation in Geraldton: Last week, the DIA Geraldton office held its Reconciliation sausage sizzle in the park, with great success. Regional Manager Russell Simpson and former Police District Superintendent Alan Gronow spoke to the crowd about the meaning of Reconciliation. More than 50 people attended, including the Minister for Disability Services, Citizenship and Multicultural Interests and Minister Assisting the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure Tony McRae.
Goldfields Sorry Day: DIA staff were also involved in the Kalgoorlie Boulder Reconciliation Day, taking part in a 900-strong march. Regional Officer Frank Martin was MC for the day, while Gerry Moody and Leslie-Ann Conway displayed their culinary skills at the DIA-funded BBQ. Starting with a flag raising ceremony at Kalgoorlie and Boulder town halls, festivities included speeches, bands, cultural dances and the YMCA bus.
Wetlands Indigenous Project Officer vacancy: The Swan Catchment Council has a vacancy for a Wetlands Indigenous Project Officer, based at Midland. The job involves working closely with local government and community groups to provide information on the Indigenous cultural heritage of the Swan region wetlands for incorporation into management plans. The council is seeking someone with experience in stakeholder consultation, knowledge of Aboriginal history and who works well in a team. Applications close Monday, 12 June. Aboriginal Alcohol Drug Service open day: The Aboriginal Alcohol Drug Service is holding an open day during Drug Action Week. There will be community and photo displays, live bands, films, arts and crafts, food and a BBQ lunch. The event runs from 10am to 3pm on Thursday, 22 June, at the service, 211 Royal Street, East Perth. All are welcome.
