Quairading's first NAIDOC Week: Aboriginal people in Quairading will celebrate the town’s first ever NAIDOC Week on Wednesday, 5 July. Supported by the Department of Indigenous Affairs and the Shire of Quairading, local Aboriginal people will showcase their history, culture and achievements. The day of celebration will start at the Telecentre with an Aboriginal welcome. The community will then walk together down the main street to the Town Hall as a show of unity. After morning tea there will be an opportunity for the community to learn about local Aboriginal History, cultural awareness and hear stories from Aboriginal Elders. The Quairading NAIDOC Awards, to recognise members of the Aboriginal Community who contribute to community and are role models in fields such as music, art, culture, education, sport and employment, will be given. There is also a Reconciliation award for a non-Aboriginal person.
