Indigenous student wins scholarship: Mt Barker Senior High School Indigenous student Lakoda Winmar is the recipient of the Father Chris Riley Scholarship. With the $5000 she will receive Lakoda, who is a budding netball player, will be able to attend sporting events such as Country Week. At 14, Lakoda is the youngest recipient of the scholarship and the only winner from Western Australia. As part of her prize, Lakoda will travel to NSW with her grandparents to receive the award.

Museum running workshops for students: The Western Australian Museum is running workshops during November. Students will work with Indigenous artists from the Papulankutja to make paper from Spinifex grass and create original art works. For more information please phone 9427 2792.

Indigenous tours on Rottnest Island: For the first time you can join a tour that has been developed and conducted by Indigenous guides on Rottnest Island. Noongar guides including experts from the Wadjuk people offer you the opportunity to see, hear and experience the Indigenous story of Rottnest Island. Tickets and information available at the Visitor's Centre or by phoning 9372 9730.

Noongar Ball: The Noongar Masquerade Ball is being held at the Lord Forest Hotel in Bunbury on Friday, 3 November 2006. Tickets cost $75 and include entertainment, dinner and drinks. For further details please call Joanne Dimer on Ph: (08) 9792 5217 or email.

Successful series of talks run by university: The University of Notre Dame Broome campus held a series of talks from May to July titled The Barrgana Series. Barrgana is the Yawaru word for the season from mid-May to July. The aim of the talks was tol raise greater awareness and appreciation of the Kimberley historical and cultural perspectives. More than 1000 people attended the talks during the eight weeks. The program is planned to be continued next year.

Vacancy at City of Armadale: Applications are sought at the City of Armadale for an Indigenous Community Development Coordinator. Positions Vacant: This week there are five positions available at the DIA. There are two Level 4/5 Regional Officer positions (details) and a Level 6 Senior Project Officer (details) at the Kununurra office. Heritage is seeking a Level 3 Heritage Registration GIS Officer. More.  There is also a Level 3 Record Supervisor position. More. A contract position exists for a Level 7 Manager, Land Operations. More.
