KOORA, YEYE, BOORDA INDIGENOUS FILM FESTIVAL: The film festival is part of NAIDOC Celebrations for 2007 and recognises the 40th anniversary of the 1967 Referendum. They will be showing the WA premiere of Foot Prints in the Sand and five award winning short Indigenous films on Sunday 8 July 2007, 4pm-6pm at Kim E Beasley Lecture Theatre, Murdoch University, South Street.

RSVP essential to (08) 9360 6253 or rsvp@murdoch.edu.au VISIT TO KALGOORLIE BY THE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY COMMISSIONER MS YVONNE HENDERSON: Indigenous people and friends in and around Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the Goldfields region are invited to talk about public housing issues over lunch on Thursday, 5 July 2007, at Kalgoorlie Railway Motel & Function Centre, 51 Forrest Street, Kalgoorlie (11am start with lunch provided). This will be one of a series of follow-up and feedback visits to regions across WA. If you require help getting to the meeting travel assistance can be arranged.

AUSTRALIAN INDIGENOUS TOURISM CONFERENCE 2007: The Australian Indigenous Tourism Conference Organising Commitee invite you to register for this year's conference in Broome, WA. 'Walk with me...taking care of country' will be the theme of the conference with the main focuses being the environment, our young people, business opportunities and maintaining our culture.
For more infomation and to register please click here NAIDOC CELEBRATION AT PARABURDOO PRIMARY SCHOOL: It was a fantastic celebration for the kids of Paraburdoo Primary School last week when they celebrated NAIDOC week. During the event the kids had the opportunity to meet with some elders from Bellary Spring Community, Nana Joyce Injie and Auntie June Injie, who shared stories with the kids and provided them with information about bush medicine and bush tucker. They also showed them some artefacts and explained the use of these valuable tools. Other activities included a dance group of 7 Aboriginal kids, making damper and face painting with Aboriginal colours.
The event was organised by the Aboriginal liaison worker Ben Tucker and Cecilia Fernandez Community Capacity Builder from the Department for Child Protection. Cecilia has expressed her delight at the interest and respect the kids demonstrated towards Aboriginal affairs. CORRECTION SERVICES AND THE ATTORNEY GENERAL CELEBRATE NAIDOC WEEK: The Departments of Corrective Services and of the Attorney General (DotAG) will join forces to celebrate NAIDOC Week at an event to be held in Perth, at 11am on Wednesday, 11 July. Channel 10 reporter Narelda Jacobs will MC the event and Noongar elder Marie Taylor will present the Welcome to Country. There will be speeches by the Minister for Corrective Services Margaret Quirk, Corrective Services Commissioner, Ian Johnson, and DotAG A/Director General Ray Warnes, and Aboriginal Legal Service Executive Director Dennis Eggington will present the keynote address. Entertainment will include singing duo Djiva, singer-songwriter Clint Bracknell and Shane Garlett on didgeridoo with the Dookatj Dance Group. The 1-hour event will be held outside the head offices of both departments, on the Plaza level of Westralia Square, 141 St Georges Terrace, Perth. To see the invite please click here NAIDOC EVENTS IN THE SWAN AREA: There are some fantastic events happening in the Swan area, such as the Family Fun Day on Tuesday July 10. Activities include the Noongar band PATCH UP, a sausage sizzle,bouncey castle, sand therapy, rock painting and much much more. Bring your grannies and yorga’s.. The events have been organised by the Maali Action Group. NAIDOC WEEK CELEBRATIONS AT BUNGARUN HISTORIC CEMETERY: The Department of Corrective Services & the Department of Indigenous Affairs have teamed up to conduct a memorial service at the Bungarun Historic Cemetery on the 14 July 2007. The service, starting at 11.00am, will be conducted by Father Paul Boyers with the memorial address being held by the Member for the Kimberley Carol Martin, MLA. Betty Logan, ALT Executive Member will be attending the service. A memorial attendant's book will be in place for all attendees to sign. The attendant's book will then be donated to the Bungarun Museum and will become part of history. THE CARNIVAL OF AUSTRALIAN ICONS HOLIDAY PROGRAM: Do you want to witness Australian characters and stories come to life in new, novel and dramatic ways? If so then head down to the WA Museum from Monday 9 July through to Friday 20 July.
Activities, stories and games for young people and families to explore our cultural heritage in ways you cannot imagine are available from 10am-2pm. For further information click here KIDS IN THE CITY - WINTER DREAMING: Winter Dreaming is a free performance of short stories inspired by Noongar Dreaming and performed by Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company. Including Didge and Dance workshops, this is a fun, interactive and cultural experience especially for kids.
